St Helens wing Matty Dawson has signed a two-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of 2017.
The 24-year-old joined Saints from Huddersfield Giants last year and has recently replaced the injured Tommy Makinson in the starting line-up.
Versatile Dawson, who can also play centre, told the club's official website: “I had no hesitation to re-sign with the Saints.
“I said when I signed two years ago that I was overwhelmed to be joining such a club and to accept another deal is a no-brainer.
“I know Nathan Brown brought me to the Saints but it is pleasing that Keiron Cunningham has seen something in me. I hope I can continue to impress him and do what I can for the club.
“Sometimes I have to pinch myself that I am playing for St Helens, when you consider its history. It is a massive thing for me personally.”
Dawson scored six tries in 19 appearances for Saints last season before he was injured in the closing stages of the campaign.
He returned to feature six times at the start of this season before an ankle problem kept him out for eight weeks. He was back for the 30-14 victory over rivals Wigan and is keen to feature in further high-profile affairs.
“To be part of the squad last season was very special and what we achieved,” added Dawson. “I played 19 games but got injured towards the back end of the year and that perhaps cost me a place in the Final.
“This year I have played a few games and I am now back in the team following injury. Keiron has put faith in me following Tommy Makinson's injury and hopefully I can fill his shoes.
“I will do my best to do that and kick on for the rest of the season. Langtree Park was bouncing last Friday against Wigan and I want to be part of those big games.”
Watch St Helens take on another of Matty Dawson’s former clubs – Castleford – on Thursday. Coverage begins on Sky Sports 1 at 7:30pm.
