Salford second rower Josh Jones is set to miss the first month of the new season after breaking his hand in a friendly.

The former St Helens player, who played in all but two of his club's 33 games in 2016, was hurt in the Red Devils' 44-18 win over Rochdale on Sunday.

Salford head coach Ian Watson said: "Josh is looking like maybe six weeks out with a fracture in his hand. He doesn't know when he did it but we sent him for an X-ray and it revealed the extent of the damage.

"It's unfortunate but you have to play these games in order to be ready for the season."
