Salford second rower Josh Jones is set to miss the first month of the new season after breaking his hand in a friendly.
The former St Helens player, who played in all but two of his club's 33 games in 2016, was hurt in the Red Devils' 44-18 win over Rochdale on Sunday.
Salford head coach Ian Watson said: "Josh is looking like maybe six weeks out with a fracture in his hand. He doesn't know when he did it but we sent him for an X-ray and it revealed the extent of the damage.
"It's unfortunate but you have to play these games in order to be ready for the season."
The Red Devils, who play champions Wigan in their opening league game on February 11, will be hoping to avoid further injuries when they take on Halifax next Sunday in the Colin Dixon Memorial Trophy.
