Adrian Morley retirement hint as Salford owner calls him 'my best signing'

Marwan Koukash has called Adrian Morley his "best-ever signing" and all-but confirmed the 38-year-old's retirement.

Former Great Britain star Morley is widely expected to quit playing at the end of the season after a 20-year career taking in time at Leeds, Sydney, Bradford and Warrington.

No official announcement has been made, but writing in his Manchester Evening News column, Koukash said Morley "will continue working for the club as an ambassador".

"We at Salford have not had long enough to marvel at his strong style of play and his equally strong leadership qualities," added the Salford owner, who has overseen a huge recruitment drive since taking charge in 2013.

"He has had a wonderful playing career and has always been magnificent for club and country. During my time at Salford, I must have made close on 30 signings and he has been the one who has stood out.

"He wears the Salford shirt with immense pride and continues to set the standard and inspire those around him."

Salford are currently third, two points clear of fourth-placed Wakefield, and this weekend's game is likely to be Morley's last at the AJ Bell Stadium if they can avoid taking part in the Million pound Game.
