Wakefield Trinity have confirmed that former Australia international Anthony Tupou has departed the Super League club by mutual consent.

Tupou, 33, joined Trinity in 2016 on a two-year deal from NRL side Cronulla Sharks.

In his time at the club, he made 18 appearances and scored four tries.

The second-rower expressed his desire to return to Australia to be with his family after the end of the 2016 season.

Chairman Michael Carter said: "Unfortunately things did not work out as well as we all had hoped, Anthony and his family were suffering a lot with homesickness.

"We wish Anthony and his family the very best in the future."
