Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have been issued with a winding-up petition for unpaid tax, their third in the last 12 months
High Court hearing just 10 days before the start of new season
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have been issued with a winding-up petition for unpaid tax, their third in the last 12 months.
The Wildcats have averted two winding-up orders brought by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, but must face another hearing at the High Court on February 2, just 10 days before the start of the new season.
A statement issued by Wakefield said: "The club owes national insurance and VAT from recent months and these figures have been included in a petition which will be heard at the High Court on 2nd February.
"We have been in dialogue with HMRC for a number of weeks and are disappointed that this petition has been served as we were hopeful of reaching a payment plan with them."
A fortnight ago the club launched an attempt to raise £500,000 through a share issue by the end of the month in order to secure their immediate future.
The club's precarious financial situation worsened after a Government decision to refer their plans for a new stadium to a public inquiry meant a delay in a promised payment of £350,000 from the developers.
