Wakefield Wildcats have signed Bill Tupou from NRL side Canberra Raiders until the end of the season, and in time to play against Huddersfield Giants on Sunday.
The 25-year-old can play centre or wing and started his career at the New Zealand Warriors, making his debut in 2010.
Tupou said: "I am extremely excited about the opportunity I have here at Wakefield Trinity. I want to help the club remain in the Super League and will give my everything to try and make that happen."
He made 62 appearances for the Warriors before joining Canberra Raiders in a mid-season switch in 2013.
He has scored 22 tries in the NRL and was selected in the New Zealand squad for the 2011 Four Nations. He also represented the Tonga national side in 2014 in a Test against Papua New Guinea.
Wakefield chairman Michael Carter said: “I am delighted to welcome Bill to the club. He will provide much-needed competition in the centre position. I am looking forward to seeing him in red, white and blue.”
The club also announced that back-rower Matt Ryan has left with immediate effect.
Carter said: “I’d like to thank Matt for all his efforts at Wakefield Trinity and I wish him all the very best for the future.”
