Wakefield have signed prop Andy Yates from Leeds on an 18-month contract.
Yates, 25, a product of the St Helens Academy and Thatto Heath amateur club, made his Super League debut in 2008 for St Helens before moving to Hunslet Hawks looking to gain more game time.
He made 27 appearances for Hunslet before signing for the Rhinos on a two-year deal in 2013, but he has since been hampered by injuries and has struggled to break into the first team at Headingley.
As a result he has opted to move to the Wildcats after speaking with coach Brian Smith and chairman Michael Carter.
Yates said: “I spoke to Brian and Michael weeks ago and they told me the plans for the club and how they want to stay in the Super League, and I want to help them.
“I want to try and do my best for the club and show what I can do as a player.”
Carter said: “I’d like to welcome Andy to the club. I am delighted to have signed him on an 18-month contract and I would like to thank Gary Hetherington and Leeds Rhinos for making the move possible.
“Andy will provide competition for places in our forward pack.”
