Warrington Wolves head coach Tony Smith is refusing to rule Mitchell Dodds out for the rest of the season - despite the forward facing six months out.

The Australian front-rower suffered both broken tibia and fibula during the side's 30-20 Super League win over Catalans Dragons on Saturday.

It was just a second Super League appearance for the 26-year old, who missed the start of the season with a wrist injury.

Dodds remained in France to undergo surgery, and should return to England on Wednesday.

"(The operation) was successful and he (Dodds) is due out of hospital to fly back on Wednesday," said Smith.

"The surgeon was pleased with the way the bones knitted back together during the operation. Without any further complications, it is expected to be a six-month recovery.

"All being well, we'll see Mitch back by the end of the season for the last month - if we play for as long as we can - which would be great for us because he certainly, in the brief time he played, did a good job for us."
