Super League new boys to sign veteran forward
Warrington hooker Jon Clarke will sign for Widnes after the Wolves announced he is to leave the club at the end of the season.
A former Great Britain international, the 32-year-old - who also had spells with Wigan and London Broncos - joined the Wolves in 2001 and has made 260 appearances, scoring 62 tries.
He was awarded a testimonial earlier this year and scored in Sunday's win over Wigan which put Warrington top of Super League.
Wolves coach Tony Smith said: "We wish Jon well for the future and would like to thank him for the commitment he has given to the club for so many years.
"He's been a fantastic influence both on and off the field and it would be fitting for him to go out on a high."
Clarke is the Vikings' 10th new recruit for their return to Super League in 2012.
Widnes coach Denis Betts, who played alongside Clarke at Wigan, said: "I've known Jon for a long time and he's improved the qualities that he had as a young kid and continued to push himself hard in his career ever since.
"Alongside his on-field attributes, Jon is a great clubman and whichever club he's been at over the years, at each and every one of them he's added to their environment.
Quality
"The overall quality of the man himself makes him a very valuable asset to our squad and I'm really looking forward to working with him once again and see his signing as a massive coup for the club."
Clarke added: "It's a new and exciting challenge that I'm about to undertake at Widnes and, despite the fact they've been in Super League before, this time around it feels like an entirely new venture and in many ways it's a blank canvas for both the club and myself.
"I've had 10 fantastic years at Warrington but the time has now come for me to part company with the club and move onto the next chapter of my career.
"Before I do that, I'll be doing my utmost to make sure that I can go out on a high and finish my time there on the right note."
