Evans grabs two tries as Widnes are defeated on Boxing Day

Two first-half tries from Rhys Evans helped Warrington to a 32-18 victory over neighbours Widnes in their Boxing Day friendly at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. New signing Stefan Ratchford made a quick impression by creating early scores for winger Evans and Matty Blythe to propel the Wolves into a 10-0 lead while Widnes newcomer Anthony Watts had limped off after just five minutes. The Vikings replied through another new signing Scott Moore and Thomas Coyle, whose tries were both converted by Patrick Ah Van, to edge the Vikings ahead. Evans gave the home side a 16-12 half-time lead with his second try and Moore was sin-binned on the stroke of half-time for his part in a flare-up Rhys Williams and replacements Brad Dwyer and Ben Currie added tries for the hosts in the second half to give the Wolves a 32-12 lead. But Widnes had the final say when Anthony Mullally went over for the last try of the match.
