Former Bronco set to sign for either the Titans or the Warriors

Hull hooker Shaun Berrigan is set to return Down Under after the club agreed to release the former Australia international from his contract. Berrigan, who was three years through a four-year deal with the Airlie Birds, was given permission to return to the NRL to be closer to his family following the death of his father last year. The 32-year-old hooker, who won the club's player of the year award in his debut campaign in 2008, is expected to sign for either the Gold Coast Titans or the New Zealand Warriors. Berrigan made 74 appearances since his arrival at the KC Stadium from Brisbane, including playing in a Challenge Cup Final at Wembley. However he has struggled for form since that game two years ago and has often been forced to play out of position to cover for injuries.

Tough year

"I have loved my time at Hull FC and leave with many happy memories and friendships," said Berrigan. "After a tough year personally in terms of injuries and the passing of my father earlier this year, I want to move closer to my mum and family and I'm looking forward to spending more time with them." Hull chief executive, James Rule, added: "On behalf of the directors, staff, coaches, players and fans, I would like to thank Shaun for his contribution to Hull FC and wish him and his family the best of luck for the future." Berrigan's departure means that the Black and Whites now have a space on their overseas quota for the 2011 Super League season.
