Leeds Rhinos forward Adam Cuthbertson has won the prestigious Rugby League Writers and Broadcasters Association player of the year award.

The Australian has been a revelation in his first season in Super League and will be presented with the Raymond Fletcher Trophy at the Association's annual dinner at Headingley on November 11.

Cuthbertson's form has given Leeds another dimension this season, with his stats ranking among the best in the league.

"When much of the focus at Leeds was on the retiring Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Peacock, it is testimony to the impact that Adam has made this year that he won the vote in such esteemed company," said Association chairman Trevor Hunt.

"The fantastic ball-handling play that he has brought to Super League shows there is still a place in the modern game for such old-fashioned skills."

The forward could add another award when the Man of Steel winner is announced on Monday, finding himself on the three-man shortlist alongside Rhinos team-mate Zak Hardaker and St Helens prop Alex Walmsley.
