Wolves star revels in 'exciting times'

Warrington Wolves were left thanking the heroics of Ben Westwood following their 26-22 victory over Bradford Bulls in the Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-finals at the Gratton Stadium. Despite leading 12-0 after just 15 minutes, the holders were made to sweat during a tense game. However, inspired by the efforts of Westwood, the Wolves were able to cling on for victory - with Lee Briers, Ryan Atkins, Vinnie Anderson and Chris Hicks (2) scoring tries for Tony Smith's side. Westwood was labelled "unreal" by his coach, but the second row was pleased with the whole team's performance. "It shows how tough we are; a few years ago we may have lost that game," said Westwood. The England international believes that the momentum his side are gathering can only be a positive thing.

Exciting

"Things are going quite well at the minute. It's quite exciting. I don't think we've ever been in a position like this before," he said. Warrington currently lie second in the engage Super League table as well as progressing through to the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup and Westwood knows things aren't going to get any easier. "We've a tough game against Salford at Salford on Friday and we're going to concentrate on them this week. We've got a few tough games coming up," he said. Warrington, join Leeds Rhinos, St Helens and the Catalans Dragons in the last four of the cup but Westwood was just happy to complete a full game. "The physio kept asking me how I was but I was alright, I felt good. I haven't been doing 80 minutes lately. He keeps fetching me off and giving me rests," said Westwood. "I was pleased with my efforts. We made hard work of it but we got the win and we're in the next round." The England squad for the international against France on June 12 is named later this week and Westwood is expected to be included.
