Bradford have released Danny Sculthorpe by mutual consent after the veteran prop failed to make an appearance in 2010.

Forward missed whole of 2010 season through injury and illness

Bradford have released prop Danny Sculthorpe by mutual consent halfway through his contract. The 31-year-old, who is the younger brother of former Great Britain international Paul, joined the Bulls on a two-year deal last winter. However the forward never made an appearance in 2010 after being struck down by injury and illness, including contracting a serious bone infection during a routine back operation. Sculthorpe was unlikely to be fit in time for the start of next season and Bradford have decided that he is no longer part of their plans.

Unfortunate

"We were delighted to have secured Danny's services for 2010 and 2011 and it was most unfortunate that injury meant he was never able to play for the club," Bulls chairman Peter Hood said. "I am pleased to say that Danny's post-operative rehab is going well, although he will probably miss the whole of pre-season. "As part of the process of finalising our squad for next season, we have reached an amicable settlement as regards the final year of Danny's contract, meaning he is now free to sign elsewhere." Sculthorpe, who has previously played for Wigan and Wakefield in the top flight, praised the club for their patience during a "difficult" time. He said: "I would like to thank the club for their support throughout what has been a very difficult and frustrating time for me and my family. I am now focused on regaining full fitness and resuming my career."
