Jake Mamo could make his belated Huddersfield Giants debut against the Catalans Dragons on Wednesday night.

Mamo was the Giants' high-profile close-season signing but he is yet to play after breaking his ankle in a motorcycle accident while on holiday in Bali in September.

The former Newcastle Knights full-back was part of the deal that took Joe Wardle to the NRL and is set to be part of Rick Stone's 19-man squad for the opening match of the Easter holiday period.

"Jake is going to train today with a view to playing on Wednesday, which will be a boost for us and a boost for our fans too," Stone said.

"He's one of our off-season signings and it's taken a bit longer to get him to the post than we would have thought, but we've tried to be patient with him.

"I'm sure he'll give us a little bit of thrust and penetration in attack. He's probably a bit more of a running than a passing full-back. He's quick and he covers the ground well.

"He was a good deputy to Kurt Gidley at the Newcastle Knights. It's a good positive for the team and I'm sure it will give us a bit of a lift.

"He hasn't run for six months before this last couple of weeks and we don't want to heap too much responsibility on him. He might even switch a bit between wing and full-back in his first game or two depending on who ends up in the make-up of the team.

Tom Symonds: A doubt for Thursday's game

"First of all it's good to get him to the post. He's keen, he's watched from the sidelines for the first eight or so weeks and he's keen to contribute."

Second-rower Tom Symonds could also return from a knee injury over Easter while centre Leroy Cudjoe is also ready to come back after missing the 14-14 draw with St Helens, also with a knee issue.
