Experienced centre did not play in 2011 after back surgery

Former New Zealand international Jamahl Lolesi will join Huddersfield's coaching staff after ending his playing career. The 31-year-old centre joined the Giants four years ago after spells with Canberra Raiders, Canterbury Bulldogs and Wests Tigers in the NRL. However he did not play in the 2011 campaign after undergoing back surgery and has now decided the time is right to confirm his retirement. "It's sad to hang the boots up but I have known for a while that the back would not permit me to play again," he said. "The opportunity to stay at a club I love working with great people was too good to refuse and I am looking forwards to a successful season." Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis said: "Jamahl more than proved his worth last year in difficult circumstances. "He has the respect of all the players in every grade and made a great start to a coaching career last year which was somewhat forced upon him because of injury. "He will continue to work towards his coaching qualifications and will provide great assistance to Nathan Brown in first grade and Peter Riding in the younger teams."
