Centre puts off retirement to play for Warriors in 2012

George Carmont has decided to put his retirement plans on hold and play on for Wigan in the 2012 season. The 33-year-old Samoa centre had been intending to hang up his boots at the end of the current campaign, his fourth with the Warriors. But after some persuasion from club chairman Ian Lenagan, Carmont has agreed to change his mind and will stay at the DW Stadium next year. "I was approached by the chairman a while ago and he asked me if I could play for another year," Carmont said. "I had considered hanging my boots up at the end of the current campaign and returning home but, after a lot of thought and talking to a few people, I decided it was the right decision to stay another year." Carmont, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the season, has scored 53 tries in 115 appearances since joining Wigan from Newcastle Knights in 2008. Lenagan said: "We are absolutely delighted that George is to stay with us for another year. He has been in outstanding form recently and has been a tremendous signing for this club."
