Briers salutes Wolves

Boots 'n' All caught up with Lee Briers whose 44 point tally in the 112-0 Challenge Cup win over Swinton made him Warrington's all time top points scorer. Briers signed for the Wolves from St Helens in 1997 and paid tribute to all the players he has played with over the last 14 years. "I have got to thank every player I have played with from 1997 until now," said Briers on Boots 'n' All. "Without them you don't break records - fortunately for me I have had some really good players around me who have helped me achieve my goals and I cannot thank them enough. "Hopefully this is not the end and I have a few years left in me."

Satisfying

Briers kicked 16 goals while a hat-trick of tries gave him a personal tally of 44 points in the Challenge Cup romp against Swinton at the weekend. It took him past Steve Hesford as Warrington's all-time leading point scorer and he is rightly enjoying the accolades. "It is very satisfying and hopefully I can be talked about in the same light as Steve Hesford is when I am finished," he said. "For the time being I am on top but I am sure someone will come along and break the record because they are there to be broken. It is nice to be number one at the moment."
Grow up
He may have had a reputation as a bit of a wild card but at the ripe old age of 32, he says that is all in the past. "You grow up - I have two kids now, my daughter is 13 and my son is eight and that makes you grow up as a person," he said. "The responsibility you have as a professional sportsman means you need to grow up and I think you grow up fast." Briers has won two challenge cups and won the Lance Todd trophy last year and while he is not coveting a Super League trophy, he does believe Warrington will get there sooner rather than later. "It would be nice but if I finish my career and I have not got a Super League winners medal then I wont be too downhearted about it," added Briers. "I know I would have tried my best to get one but I am sure this club will get a Super League trophy in the not too distant future. The club itself is moving forward very quickly and hopefully I will be still around to pick one up.
