Super League Super 8s: Phil Clarke's top five tries

Huddersfield's Jake Connor celebrates his try against Castleford

Phil Clarke has picked his top five tries from the weekend's Super League Super 8s and Qualifiers.

Read on below to find out why each try, from five to one, caught Phil's eye.

5. Ryan Hall v St Helens

Leeds Rhinos wing Ryan Hall

This try typifies why Leeds have been so successful over the last decade.

Fourteen points down with just over 10 minutes remaining, their never-say-die attitude springs to life when Tom Briscoe offloads the ball with three defenders around him – and the rest of the St Helens side in retreat.

Kevin Sinfield surges forward and Hall sprints down the middle of the pitch to score the try and make a comeback possible. They're never beaten until the hooter sounds.

4. Scott Dureau v Wigan

A try to summarise what the Dragons do best. It's instinctive, natural and unrehearsed.

It gave them a glimmer of hope early in the second half, until the Warriors did what they do best.

3. Oliver Gildart v Catalans

Wigan's strongest candidate for Young Player of the Year, George Williams, set up one try with a pass and then this one with a kick.

Williams is at his best when given the ball in a tight space with little time, and his brain seems to work faster than most other players in this competition. The kick for Gildart was perfect.

2. Denny Solomona v Huddersfield

Castleford's Denny Solomona scores his 2nd try during the Magic Weekend match at St James' Park, Newcastle.

What a shame that this try didn't win the game for the Tigers; length-of-the-field plays don't get much more impressive than this.

I know that we like to change the rules in rugby league a lot – how about 10 points for a try scored from your own in-goal area? It was worth it.

1. Jake Connor v Castleford

Perhaps the try that won the game, even though there was over 50 minutes remaining. It was the 20th point that Huddersfield scored inside 10mins, and half of the team were involved in it.

Even their 'hard to impress' coach was delighted with this try.
