Castleford Tigers receive new stadium boost

Castleford's move to a new stadium has advanced a step closer after final approval was given for a £135m development at Glasshoughton.
The scheme, on land near junction 32 of the M62, will deliver a 10,000-capacity community stadium for the Tigers as well as a retail park and country park, helping to create around 2,000 new jobs in the area.
Wakefield Council approved the planning application subject to review by Central Government and, with the judicial review period now expired, final planning permission has been confirmed that will ensure Five Towns Park comes to fruition.
Cllr Peter Box, leader of Wakefield Council, said: "It's not just a great day for Castleford Tigers but a great day for the town of Castleford.
"It's going to help with the regeneration of the town, it's also going to create new jobs and opportunities for local people, so all in all it's a red-letter day."
Castleford have been in their Wheldon Road ground - currently named the Mend-A-Hose Jungle - since 1927 but chief executive Steve Gill has stated the Tigers need to move in order to retain their Super League status.
Cas head coach Daryl Powell said: "It's outstanding news to get the next step towards our new stadium.
"It's going to be so big for Castleford Tigers and all our players are starting to get excited as well as they can see it's going to be a reality. It's fantastic news."
