Assistant coach insists Welsh club are up for challenge

Everything is "falling into place" for Crusaders ahead of their much-anticipated engage Super League opener against Leeds, says assistant coach Iestyn Harris. Head coach Brian Noble is yet to complete the rebuilding of his squad, with just 18 days to go until the re-located Welsh club launch Super League XV against the defending champions. The current Crusaders squad stands at 19, including 10 survivors from last year's line-up, five overseas recruits and Welsh-born youngsters Elliot Kear, Lewis Mills, Lloyd White and Gil Dudson. Despite the players having to contend with the move from south Wales to Wrexham as well as adverse weather conditions, former Leeds captain Harris insists the team "can't wait" for the opening showdown.

Great spirit

"Preparation hasn't been ideal but the guys have worked tremendously hard and there's a great spirit in the camp," said Harris. "We've got together a good squad of players who are ready for the challenge. They can't wait and are really up for it. "Everyone on the coaching staff has been impressed so far with what they've done. As we bring more players into the fold and add some quality to what's already there, I think it's very exciting times ahead at the Crusaders." The Crusaders share their new home with non-league football club Wrexham and Harris is adamant the partnership can work. "There's going to be some getting used to the fact that we're working alongside the football club but Dean Saunders, their head coach, has been really great and we're getting to grips with the logistics of when and where we can train," said Harris. "The training pitch and gym are both fantastic so everything seems to be falling into place."
