Crusaders tie down highly-rated centre

New Zealander Vince Mellars has committed his long-term future to Crusaders by signing a new three-year contract at the Racecourse Ground. The 26-year-old centre, who joined Crusaders from Auckland during the 2010 campaign, excelled during his first season in Super League. Mellars was a prolific try scorer, crossing the whitewash 12 times in 24 appearances for the Welsh side and played an integral part in the team's run to the play-offs. "I have really enjoyed my time here in Wrexham and I am delighted to staying here until at least 2013," he said.

Excellent

"The club gave me an opportunity to come to Super League and I feel I'm playing some of the best rugby of my career here. "My family are really settled here and once Crusaders offered me a new deal it was a very easy decision for me to make. "2010 was a great year for the club. We surprised a few people by getting into the play-offs and I believe we can go even further next year. I am enjoying my rugby and can't wait for the season to kick-off." Crusaders head coach Iestyn Harris added: "Vince has been excellent for us. He is a big, strong, athletic centre who knows his way to the try line and is willing to knuckle down and learn. He was key part of our success last year and he's going to be integral to our plans over the next few years. "Vince has a great attitude and work ethic and I'm confident 2011 is going to be another big year for him."
