New one-year deals for Quins duo

Harlequins have handed Matthew Gafa and Karl Temata new one-year contracts. Prop forward Temata and utility man Gafa have both impressed Quins boss Brian McDermott enough to be handed fresh 12-month deals at the Twickenham Stoop. Gafa, 28, is in his second full season in Super League after joining Quins from NRL side Canberra Raiders. Temata, 29, joined the Londoners from New Zealand Warriors back in September 2005 and McDermott is delighted with his contribution to the club. "Karl has been a rock for our forward pack since we lost Daniel Heckenberg and David Mills to long-term injuries," said McDemott. Gafa has played mostly in the threequarters but has been playing in the second row this year, and was described by McDermott as "one of our most consistent forwards".
