Quins star faces injury lay-off

Harlequins have suffered a major injury set-back after confirmation that prop Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook will be ruled out for up to four months with a broken wrist. The highly-rated 22-year-old will undergo surgery on Tuesday after he picked up the injury during Friday night's 48-0 Super League defeat against Leeds . The break comes as a huge blow for McCarthy-Scarsbrook who was hoping to play his way into contention for an England World Cup spot.

Leader

"This is a real blow for us as a team as well as Louie individually," said coach Brian McDermott. "He's one of our leaders on the field, and we'll certainly miss him in that respect. "He's been looking like a seasoned player in the last three or four games and he's just starting to take shape. "He was also looking good for a mid-season international spot, so it's disappointing for him that this may rule out that opportunity." In a further blow, Quins have also lost forward Daniel Heckenberg for up to six weeks after he dislocated his shoulder during a training session. Heckenberg underwent cartilage repair surgery on the same shoulder in June 2007 and subsequently sat out the rest of the season.
