Chambers set for Sunday debut

Castleford are expecting a crowd of up to 5,000 to attend Dwain Chambers' rugby league debut in a friendly on Sunday. The Super League strugglers have confirmed that the sprinter will play in a reserve-grade friendly against York at the Jungle. The 30-year-old Londoner's initial month's trial comes to an end this weekend. Chambers' appearance was dependent on him proving himself in training and assistant coach Colin Maskill has announced the sprinter will be in the 17-man squad, although he has not yet decided whether he will be in the starting line-up or on the bench. The club have announced normal admission prices, which means fans can watch Britain's fastest man for just £3. Castleford say their reserve matches are normally watched by around 150 spectators but are preparing for a crowd of anything between 2,000 and 5,000. The Tigers are averaging an attendance of 7,600 in Super League so far this year, despite lying bottom of the table, and, with the first team playing Catalans Dragons in Perpignan on Saturday, they expect many to opt out of the trip to France and turn up on Sunday. Head coach Terry Matterson, who decided against throwing Chambers straight into Super League action, is due back at Manchester Airport at 11am on Sunday and plans to get to the Jungle for the 3pm kick-off. Chambers has impressed the coaching staff and players with his enthusiasm and, according to Matterson, has not shirked the challenges. He has trained with the Super League squad on Mondays and Tuesdays and spent the rest of the time with the reserves. He will be put through two further training sessions on Thursday before Maskill decides whether to play him from the start against York.
