Australian centre to undergo surgery on Friday

Harlequins' Matt Gafa will miss the rest of the 2008 engage Super League season after suffering a torn pectoral tendon. The Australian centre, whose 10 tries have made him Quins' leading scorer this season, suffered the injury in their 34-26 victory over Hull FC at The Twickenham Stoop on Sunday. Gafa will undergo surgery on Friday to re-attach the pectoral tendon to the bone. Head coach Brian McDermott said: "Matt did his injury making a chase down tackle and that is indicative of how he has played this year, always doing the real tough stuff for us. "We're going to miss a 'try scorer' but, as with any of our injuries this year, this will open up a door for another of our exciting juniors."
