Struggling Bradford have been dealt an untimely blow with the news that vice-captain Glenn Morrison will not play again this season.
After missing the last two matches due to what was thought to be a dead leg, the Australian forward was hoping to be fit for Friday's trip to St Helens.
However, once the swelling subsided the injury has turned out to be more serious, with a specialist confirming a torn quad muscle as well as a partly broken kneecap.
Morrison will now have an operation to repair the damage, leaving the Bulls - who have lost their last three games and are hanging on to fifth spot in the table - without one of their key men for the rest of 2008.
Gutted
"We're all just really devastated for Glenn more than anything and he's understandably absolutely gutted," coach Steve McNamara said.
"How he managed to carry on playing with that injury shows just what sort of an amazing character he is. It's unbelievable really. It turned out he didn't sleep for four nights due to the pain.
"He tried to do everything he could to get back for last week's match and was going to hold his hand up again but we suspected there was something more sinister going on.
"It's another situation we've got to deal with but we will get on and do that."
Shock
The player himself was shocked to discover the full extent of the damage done but is already planning for next season, insisting he will be back with a bang in 2009.
"I wasn't expecting this. I just thought I'd got a bad 'cork'," he said.
"I tried running it off and it was pretty sore but there was no one left on the bench so I stuck it out. It is disappointing but the one positive is I'm signed next year.
"Hopefully I'll be right for a big off-season, which I didn't get this time, and ready for a big 2009."
