Busy weekend for Rhinos?

Image: Ellis: doubling up?

Leeds players selected for England's international against France this weekend may consider playing two games in 24 hours.

Second rower Ellis will double up if "fit and able"

Players from Super League champions Leeds Rhinos may consider playing two games in the space of 24 hours this weekend. Six Rhinos players have been named in coach Tony Smith's 19-man England squad for Friday's Gillette international against France in Toulouse. Leeds, whose lead over St Helens has been cut to just two points after they suffered back-to-back defeats, are then at home to Castleford on Saturday evening. Several of their internationals are considering playing in both matches, with England captain Jamie Peacock telling a news conference: "There's no chance I'll be playing but there is a chance some of the younger guys might double up." Leeds second rower Gareth Ellis said: "It's something that I'm hoping to do. It depends on my game on Friday. "It's easy to pick up a few injuries but, if I'm fit and able, I'll put my name forward to play."

Free to play

Meanwhile, Ellis and fellow Leeds forward Ryan Bailey are free to play this weekend after avoiding a disciplinary hearing over their dangerous tackle on St Helens prop Maurie Fa'asavalu during last Friday's showdown at Headingley. They were placed on report by referee Steve Ganson after Fa'asavalu was left writhing in agony and are to receive written warnings over their tackling technique. But another Leeds front rower, Nick Scruton, is facing a suspension of between two and five matches when he appears before the RFL's disciplinary committee on Tuesday charged with a dangerous throw. Scruton was sent off for a "spear" tackle on St Helens hooker Keiron Cunningham during Leeds' 26-12 defeat and has been charged with a grade B offence. Warrington back row forward Rob Parker, who has twice been warned this season over his tackling technique, has been ordered to face the hearing charged with a similar offence during his side's 52-14 defeat by Catalans Dragons. And Hull KR captain Michael Vella will also face the committee on a charge of illegal use of the forearm in their 26-18 loss against Wakefield.
