Club denies Kear has left Wildcats after seventh defeat

Reports that veteran Wakefield coach John Kear has left the club after the Wildcats' seventh straight defeat have been denied. The former Sheffield, Huddersfield and Hull coach, who also took the role of football director at the beginning of the season, signed a two-year contract extension in February until 2011. However, a poor run of form - including missing out on a place in the Carnegie Challenge Cup final and dropping out of the Super League play-offs - means the 52-year-old coach has been under increasing pressure. Wakefield, though, have dismissed reports that Kear had left his job. A statement from the club read: "Contrary to reports this morning, John Kear still remains at the Wakefield Wildcats in his position of football director and head coach. "He will remain in charge and he is working hard with the coaching staff and players to get the season back on track. "Kear is not one to walk away from a challenge and he remains very much dedicated and committed to the club."
