Aussie agrees to Vikings switch

Australian scrum-half James Webster has signed a two-year contract with National League One side Widnes. The Vikings reportedly fought off several rival clubs for the signature of the 29-year-old, who was captain at Hull KR before moving to Hull, where he made just one appearance. It is an ironic move for Webster, who produced a man-of-the-match performance for the Robins in the 2006 National League Grand Final against Widnes, denying the Vikings promotion. Widnes sporting director Terry O'Connor, who played in that match at Warrington, said: "I still can't bring myself to forgive him for ruining my last competitive game which would have taken Widnes into Super League! "On a serious note, he has been a stand-out player for Hull KR over the years and also the best player in the National League in 2006 when I played against him. "Hopefully he can bring that form and professionalism to the club and take us to the next level whilst showing our juniors what it takes to become a top player both on and off the pitch."
