Veteran centre joins Super League new boys

Willie Talau has penned a two-year contract with Salford City Reds. Talau, 32, joins the Reds after spending five seasons with St Helens. The Samoan-born centre made the last of 152 appearances for Saints in the 24-16 Grand Final defeat to Leeds. "Willie is an outstanding player and has played at the highest level for many years," said Salford's director of football Steve Simms. "He will bring that experience and knowledge of the game to the Willows." Talau, who scored 66 tries for St Helens, won 13 caps with New Zealand and played for them in the 2000 World Cup final but is hoping to be named in Samoa's final squad for this year's World Cup. He is expected to link up with the Reds for pre-season training in December ahead of their return to Super League.
