Winger determined to prove his worth at Craven Park
New Hull KR signing Liam Colbon has admitted that he had to leave Wigan in order to further his Super League career.
The 24-year-old winger turned down a new contract at his home-town club in favour of a new challenge at Craven Park.
And Colbon, who has been on Wigan's books since the age of 16, sensed limited opportunities at the JJB Stadium and felt the time was right to move on.
"It was tough to move," Colbon said. "Not only was I leaving the rugby team but the town and my family and friends.
"I would have liked to have stayed at Wigan but they couldn't guarantee me first-team football and wanted to use me more in a utility role. I wouldn't be playing every week.
"This is a good opportunity. I just want first-team football and I don't want to play U21s anymore.
Injury-free
"I looked at the quality of the outside backs and spoke to some of the Australians I know who knew Justin Morgan and they said he was a really good coach and I'd learn a lot here.
"Hopefully now we can get a good start to the season and we can build on that."
An Achilles injury has frustrated Colbon's pre-season preparations with his new club, however he did play an hour in Rovers' recent friendly win over Salford.
And the powerful wing now feels fully fit and ready to take on Bradford in Rovers' engage Super League opener at the Grattan Stadium on Sunday.
"Hopefully I've got my injuries out of the way pre-season and I can have an injury-free run now," he said.
"It's a bit frustrating stood watching your new team-mates but hopefully now I can just kick on and have a good season."
