Wakefield aim to raise £100,000 for team strengthening
Wakefield coach John Kear has been promised a mid-season cash boost of up to £100,000 after the issue of new shares in the club.
At a meeting of Wildcats shareholders it was decided to make 100,000 new shares available immediately at one pound each, with all money generated to be used for team strengthening.
"I think it's excellent news," said Kear. "We're obviously making progress on the field - that is there for everybody to see - and the directors are trying to generate additional revenue.
"Any funds that are raised through these shares have been promised to me for team strengthening and I'm delighted about that."
The news come as Wakefield brace themselves for a bid of around £100,000 from engage Super League rivals Huddersfield for goalkicking scrum half Danny Brough but Kear insists the club do not need to sell players.
"We're working within our budget," he said. "We're pretty happy with where we're going. The club is sound financially.
"Any funds will not necessarily be used for this season, we are starting to identify people for next year."
Kear also played down suggestions Huddersfield's public move for the influential Brough would unsettle the Scotland captain ahead of Saturday's Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth-round tie against Wigan at Belle Vue.
"Danny is not the type of character to get unsettled by anything," he added.
Bibey passed fit
Meanwhile, former Wigan prop Rickey Bibey is set to face his old club after recovering from a knee injury which has sidelined him for the last seven matches.
He is set to take the place of Dale Ferguson, who rolled an ankle in last Saturday's 32-16 defeat by Bradford, although Kear has also included Australian forward Frank Winterstein in his 19-man squad.
The former Canterbury Bulldogs player arrived in the country six weeks ago but has yet to make his senior debut.
"He has been working really hard to earn a place," confirmed Kear. "I've been impressed by him and there is no doubt he will get an opportunity in the very near future."
Stand-off Jamie Rooney is not yet ready to make his comeback from a knee injury and former Wigan centre Sean Gleeson will not face his old club - including cousin Martin Gleeson - after failing to recover from illness.
