Injury rules Giants second rower out of Challenge Cup final

It has been confirmed that Huddersfield forward Danny Kirmond will miss the Challenge Cup final against Warrington with a knee injury. The second rower sustained medial ligament damage during the Giants' 12-10 Super League defeat at St Helens on Friday. The 23-year-old has been ruled out for an initial six weeks - putting him out of Saturday's showdown at Wembley - but will undergo further tests amid fears he has also damaged cruciate ligaments. If scans confirm that is the case, the former Featherstone player faces months on the sidelines and would not play again this season. "We're all really disappointed for Danny," stated Giants coach Nathan Brown. "He's had a good year and would definitely have been part of our Wembley plans. "He played a big role in us getting there and that's on the back of all the other good things he's done for us so consistently. "Danny's a really good kid, who always trains hard and gives 100 percent in the games he plays. "As you can imagine, what's happened to him has hit him hard and we all feel for him." Kirmond was one of only six members of Huddersfield's Cup semi-final winning side to feature at St Helens and his final place at Wembley seems likely to go to Andy Raleigh who made his comeback at Knowsley Road after a two-month lay-off with an Achilles injury.
