Salford have hit out at Brad Drew after he pulled out of a proposed one-year deal, choosing to rejoin Huddersfield instead.
Reds receive a boost with Parker set to return from fractured skull
Salford admit they have been left "bitterly disappointed" by Brad Drew's decision to pull out of a proposed move to The Willows.
The Australian, who is currently with Wakefield, had agreed terms on a one-year deal with the Reds for next season.
However, Salford were left stunned when they found out the 34-year-old had performed a U-turn, choosing to rejoin former club Huddersfield instead.
Hooker Drew had been lined up as a replacement for Robbie Paul, who is joining Championship club Leigh for the 2010 campaign.
Devastated
"We are absolutely devastated," Reds football director Steve Simms told the
Manchester Evening News.
"He had agreed to finalise his signing for us yesterday so I contacted his agent to see where we could meet up to conclude the formalities only to be told Drew had decided he was going back to Huddersfield.
"We feel let down and we are bitterly disappointed after we had agreed a one-year deal.
"Drew was happy with the contract and so was his agent. All we needed was a signature on a contract but he's gone back on his word after terms were agreed and there's nothing we can do about it."
Parker comeback
Meanwhile, the Reds have received some good news with Rob Parker set to return to action from a fractured skull.
The forward has been given the go-ahead to face Bradford on Sunday having missed the last 12 weeks of the Super League season. He fractured his skull in five places against Wigan back in June.
"It's a tremendous boost to have Rob back in the fold and have him around us training every day," said Salford coach Shaun McRae.
"He will go into the 19-man squad but we have a few days yet to assess his fitness.
"Rob's been out three months so obviously his condition is considerably less than where it needs to be but we will have a look at him nearer the time."
