Giants coach hits back at Walters' "wrestlemania" jibe

Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown has criticised his Les Catalans counterpart Kevin Walters for accusing the Giants of turning the game into a "wrestlemania" ahead of their play-off clash at the Galpharm Stadium. Walters, whose side are set to meet the Giants in a preliminary semi-final, slated Huddersfield's style of tackling, blaming them for use of "wrestling tactics" to slow down the play-the-ball area. The Catalans coach also revealed he had already raised the issue with referees chief Stuart Cummings. Brown has consequently hit back by defending his team's tackling technique and has questioned Walters' possible motive for the allegations.

Influenced

"I am aware of what Kevin has been saying and I'd be very disappointed if a referee as experienced as Steve Ganson was in anyway influenced by this," said Brown on the Huddersfield team's website. "It is pretty common in Australia at semi-final time for coaches to try and put pressure on referees like this in a way to gain an advantage. "On the previous two occasions we've beaten Catalans, Kevin has never accused us of this. "He must be concerned about our good defence, and that's clearly a rap for us. If our game was being controlled by a young and inexperienced referee it may have been a problem, but I'm sure that under Steve Ganson the ruck will be policed correctly." Brown also commented that the Dragons should be focusing on their own tactics given their poor disciplinary record this year. "I'm surprised Kevin is trying to advise Steve Ganson on how to referee when his own team is the most heavily penalised in the competition," he said. "That's the area Kevin should be concentrating on."
