Injury-hit winger Luke George has signed a new two-year deal with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Exciting winger hopes to overcome injury problems

Wakefield winger Luke George will stay at Belle Vue until the end of 2011 after signing a new two-year contract with the club. The 21-year old made his debut for the Wildcats in 2007 but has had to deal with a series of injuries, including a serious knee problem in the early stages of last season. However, the former Huddersfield player looked a formidable threat in the few matches he has played, scoring 13 tries in 14 appearances. Wildcats coach John Kear predicts that George will become one of Super League's most potent attacking threats if he stays injury-free.

Tries

"It has been a very frustrating two years for Luke with a major knee injury at the start of 2008 and then lots of niggling injuries that have hampered his progress," he told Wakefield's official website. "But you only have to look at his statistics to see he knows his way to the line and with a full pre-season under his belt, I think next year he can be competing with the top tryscorers in the competition." George, who signs a new contract shortly after Kevin Henderson inked a fresh deal, is hoping for a breakout campaign next season. He added: "I've been struggling over the last couple of years with injuries and for the coaching staff to recognise that I've been doing well since getting back in the side is a great confidence boost. "People have only really been able to see half of what I can do and with the quality of players we're bringing in next year I'm hoping myself, and more importantly the team, can have another good year."
