Former Wigan stand-off called into Kangeroos' train-on squad

Trent Barrett has been called into Australia's train-on squad for the Gillette Four Nations despite not having played for two months. The former Wigan stand-off, who received the call-up due to reservations over the fitness of Australia captain Darren Lockyer, sustained a cheekbone and eye socket fracture playing for Cronulla Sharks earlier in the year. The 31-year-old former St George Illawarra captain has not played for the Kangeroos in four years but returned to Australia last year after completing two seasons in Super League with the Warriors. The squad will be named by selectors after the Nation Rugby League Grand Final between Melbourne and Parramatta. "I am really happy to be considered," said Barrett, who made his return to State of Origin this year with New South Wales. "I am a little bit surprised but, if picked, would love to go on the tour. We will just have to wait and see what happens with Locky's injury."
