Super League players called up for qualifier

St Helens players Francis Meli and Tony Puletua have been included in the Samoa squad ahead of their Pacific Cup qualifying match against Cook Islands. The Saints pair join a number of Super League players to be named in the 20-man squad for the clash in Cairns on October 17. Coach Willie Poching has also included Wigan back rower Harrison Hansen, Leeds prop Kylie Leuluai and his uncle Phil Leuluai, who plays for Salford. Leeds second rower Ali Lauitiiti has ruled himself out of the squad due to family commitments. The winner of the game between Samoa and Cook Islands will join Fiji, Tonga and hosts Papua New Guinea in the Pacific Cup, which starts later this month. The eventual cup winners will then line up in the 2010 Four Nations series alongside Australia, New Zealand and England.
