Huddersfield have signed Scott Grix from Super League rivals Wakefield on a two-year deal.

Ireland captain signs two-year deal with Huddersfield

Scott Grix has become the latest departure from Wakefield after signing a two-year deal with Super League rivals Huddersfield. The Ireland international is the ninth player to leave Belle Vue and will join another ex-Wildcat, Brad Drew, at the Galpharm Stadium next season. The 25-year-old turned down offers from other teams to head to Huddersfield in the hope of developing his career under Nathan Brown. Grix, who can play on the wing or in both half-back positions, excelled at last year's World Cup and has been re-appointed Ireland's captain for their forthcoming European Cup campaign.

Motivation

"I'm really excited about the prospect of playing for the Giants for the next two years and I can't wait to get started," he said. "I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into pre-season training already and have great motivation to kick on for next year. "If you look at the way Huddersfield have gone this year, it's clear that each player has improved playing under Nathan Brown, and I want to make sure my game goes the same way. "I'm at the stage in my career where I need to be rising to the next level, and coming to Huddersfield I think I've found the right place to do that." Giants boss Brown is delighted with his latest recruit as he looks to build on a fine first season in charge at Huddersfield that included a third-placed finish in Super League and a trip to Wembley for the Challenge Cup Final.
Competition
Grix's capture follows on from the signings of hooker Drew, St Helens forward Lee Gilmour and New Zealand international David Fa'alogo. "What we want is a squad where there is genuine competition for places throughout so to have a guy who has played one, six, seven, nine and 13 in the past will be great for us," Brown said. "He gives the squad a more rounded and deeper look to it. I watched him in the World Cup and last season and I like his enthusiasm and desire." As well as Huddersfield-bound duo Grix and Drew, Ricky Bibey, Jamie Rooney, Tony Martin, Frank Winterstein, Ryan Atkins, Steve Snitch and Oliver Wilkes have all left Wakefield in an end-of-season exodus.
