Dual code international announces retirement
Dual code rugby international Wendell Sailor has decided to announce his retirement from all forms of the game.
The 35-year-old has spent the past two seasons with NRL outfit St George Illawarra Dragons and had been contemplating extending his contract for a further year.
However, after talks with his family and Dragons coach Wayne Bennett, Sailor has decided the time is right to bring the curtain down on his colourful career.
"I've had my time and am now ready to step aside and let the great young players here have their turn," he stated.
"Even though this is a major decision in anyone's life, it's not one that I had to think too much about.
"I came back to rugby league and achieved what I wanted and needed to with a fantastic club in the Dragons. My family and I are ready for this next phase in our lives."
Sailor joined St George Illawarra in 2008 after serving a two-year ban for cocaine use whilst playing for rugby union outfit the NSW Waratahs.
In total he played 33 times for the Dragons, as well as 189 times for fellow NRL outfit Brisbane Broncos, while he also amassed 37 Test caps for the Australian rugby union side.
The larger than life winger will remain involved with the Dragons in a marketing and PR capacity and will also seek to develop his media career.
