St Helens have announced that 2010 will be their last season at Knowsley Road

St Helens have confirmed they will move from Knowsley Road at the end of the 2010 season. Saints will move to their new stadium in 2011, however the opening matches of that campaign will be played elsewhere as the ground nears completion. The club have announced that they will hold a series of forums in February allowing supporters to view the stadium plans and reserve seats. Chief executive Tony Colquitt said: "We will be moving into the new stadium in 2011 and consequently 2010 will be our last season at Knowsley Road. "It looks in all probability that we may have to play a few games of the 2011 season on the road. "We have already had discussions with the RFL who are fully supportive and we will announce more details at the season-ticket holders forums in February."

History

St Helens moved to Knowsley Road in 1890, defeating Manchester Rangers in their first match. With the move to the new stadium finally in sight, the club are set to announce a series of events celebrating the Saints history at the ground in the New Year. Colquitt said: "It's been an incredibly complex process, accentuated by the wider economic climate. "Whilst it's exciting times, we also acknowledge that it's only fitting that we celebrate 120 years at Knowsley Road." Saints chairman Eamonn McManus added: "Our dream of a new stadium is fast becoming a reality."
