Soliola touches down on debut as Wheeler crosses twice

St Helens continued their preparations for the start of Super League XV with a 42-26 victory at Widnes on Tuesday night. New Zealand international Sia Soliola made a try-scoring debut for Saints while Gary Wheeler, Bryn Hargreaves and Jamie Foster also touched down in the first half. The hosts rallied briefly with two tries from Dean Thompson and one from Anthony Thackeray, all converted by Shane Grady. However, Wheeler added his second try in the second half and others came from Tom Armstrong, Chris Dean and Jamie Ellis. Foster kicked five goals in the match. Matt Gardner, brother of Saints winger Ade, marked his Widnes debut with a try and Matt Strong also touched down for the hosts.
