A detailed look back at the third day of this year's Wimbledon.

A detailed look back at events at Wimbledon

2055 : Cillic secures victory to bring today's commentary to an end. He beat Sam Querry in five sets.

2047 : Bartoli is also through as she wins in straight sets.

2042 : Dementieva doesn't look back after that boost as she secures a 6-1 6-3 victory.

2033 : Dementieva battles back as she levels the second set score at 3-3.

Also See:

2025 : Former finalist Marion Bartoli wins the first set of her clash against Timea Bacsinszky on Court Three.

2019 : It looks like we are in for a late finish on centre court as Querry wins the tie-break 7-4 to force a fifth set.

2015 : Problems for Dementieva as she is a break down at the start of the second set against Rezai.

2011 : We are in a fourth set tie-break in the match between Querry and Cillic.

1958 : Dementieva is looking in great form as she wins the first set 6-1.

1942 : Dementieva has just broken again and is now 3-0 ahead. Querrey has broken back against Cillic on Centre as he attempts to take it to five sets.

1937 : Ivo Karlovic has powered through to round three in straight sets. He has just completed a 7-5 6-3 6-4 win over Steve Darcis and will play number nine seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga next up.

1935 : I mentioned Dementieva earlier, and her second round clash with Rezai is now underway. The Russian has in fact broken her unseeded French opponent in the very first game - this one could finish tonight.

1928 : Cillic's serve came under huge pressure from Querrey but the lanky Croat has held on to move 2-0 ahead in the third and potentially finally set.

1927 : The Russian fluffed his lines and Spadea has pulled it back to 5-4.

1925 : A potential opponent for Seppi in round three, Andreev, has broken Spadea over on Court 18 and will look to serve out the set at 5-3 ahead.

1922 : After his earlier nerves, Mr Seppi has regained his composure to clinch the first set 7-5 against Gicquel on Court 14.

1920 : Cillic is finding his groove now on Centre. He has just broken Querrey to love to take the first game of the fourth set. Worrying times for the American...

1916 : No sweat for Cillic, he moves 2-1 up. French Open finalist Soderling has wrapped up victory on Court Two - a 4-6 7-6 6-4 7-5 winner over Granollers. He will face Almagro in round three after the Spaniard progressed in a five-set epic with Beck.

1915 : Cillic has broken Querrey's booming serve and is preparing to serve out the third set at 5-3 ahead on Centre Court.

1914 : Regina Kulikova has fought back to beat fellow Russian Alisa Kleybanova 0-6 6-4 6-1 on Court Seven. Kulikova could face another familiar face, number four seed Elena Dementieva in the next round if she overcomes Aravane Rezai.

1909 : Number 13 seed Soderling has broken and is serving for the match against Granollers...

1905 : Seppi has failed to serve out the set against Gicquel who levels at 5-5. The winner of that match will play either Andreev or Spadea and would have a great chance of reaching the last 16 you feel.

1900 : One men's match we've yet to mention is Vincent Spadea against Igor Andreev, who has just claimed the opening set 6-3. Meanwhile Andreas Seppi and Marc Gicquel are also in action on court 14.

1858 : It's full steam ahead for Karlovic, who has thrahsed down ace after ace to forge into a 2-0 set lead over a hapless Darcis.

1850 : After Beck wrapped up the fourth set against Almagro 6-3, the pair are now level at 3-3 in the decider. We've had no shortage of long matches in the men's competition today and the loser of this one will be absolutely gutted.

1845 : Cilic is psyched up right now and wins an eagerly contested tie-break with Querrey 7-3 to square the match at one set apiece.

1838 : Encouraging words from Sharapova now and it appears as if the Russian isn't too down about her second-round exit earlier today. The former champion said: "Just being here is a wonderful accomplishment. I'm not lying about it. I had the pleasure of playing on Centre Court again. I didn't play on it last year. There's nothing I don't like about this whole tournament. I enjoy every single minute of it. The losses are tough - more here than at any other tournament - but it puts some perspective into your life. It's all right. I have many more years ahead of me."

1834 : Karlovic hammered down 11 aces against Darcis as he took the opening set 7-5 on court four and at the moment it's hard to see the Belgian breaking him.

1831 : Cilic was struggling against the big-serving Querrey, who was serving for the second set on Centre Court. But the Croatian got lucky with net chord to steal a break and that could be a key turning point. Cilic still trails 4-5 but he has the serve.

1827 : Soderling is exerting his authority now against Granollers of Spain having taken the third set to lead 2-1. The Swede is pumped up and currently surging towards a spot in the third round.

1826 : In fact the Slovakian is now a break up in the fourth set and leads 5-2 with Almagro now serving to prevent a decider.

1822 : Beck has refused to lie down during his encounter on court 12, making the most of his break in the third set to halve Almagro's lead to 2-1.

1818 : At last, we have another women's match which goes to a third set following Kulikova's 6-4 success against Kleybanova, who took the opener 6-0.

1812 : It's an easy win for Zvonareva, the seventh seed crushing Johansson like a fly 6-1 6-3 in one hour and 15 minutes. As I said before, there's only been one classic in the women's competition today - so with any luck they'll at least provide some thrills and spills tomorrow.

1807 : Querrey, the 21-year-old American, has taken his match with the higher-ranked Cilic by the scruff of the neck having moved into a 1-0 set lead. This is a huge clash for both men who are looking to make a breakthrough at the highest level.

1805 : Don't be fooled into thinking this day is drawing to a close - another men's clash has just begun on court four with 22nd seed Ivo Karlovic of Croatia up against Belgium's Steve Darcis. Now I always expect Karlovic to go far at SW19 due to his thumping serve but he's been dumped out at the first round in each of the previous four years. However, having brushed past Lukas Lacko in straight sets on Monday, maybe he's over his mental block and is ready to mount a serious challenge.

1800 : Remember if you have any opinions about the Wimbledon championships which you would like to share, then email me at christopher.hammer@bskyb.com

1756 : Soderling is not a man to take lightly and showed all his fighting instincts during a second-set tie-break against Granollers, taking it 9-7 to level the match at 1-1.

1755 : Djokovic, who was rather patchy during his triumph over Greul, next faces Fish but doesn't sound to confident. The Serbian said: "I can't say I am genuinely pleased with the game. I had a lot of ups and downs and I wasn't serving well when I was up. I am happy to get through in straight sets. I just try to go step by step. Mardy is very difficult to play on grass and very aggressive. I cannot predict what will happen. I rate my chances 50-50."

1752 : Dulko has been speaking following her famous triumph over Sharapova. She said: "It's a great day for me. She's a great champion and it's the most important tournament in the world. I didn't play very well in the second set but I kept fighting and everything came good.''

1748 : Quotes now from Federer following his victory earlier today. He said: "I definitely did not want to underestimate him but I think I did well today. I could even try out a few things in the third set. It was solid and that's exactly what I needed today."

1745 : Almagro is a break down in the third set but there's no need for him to worry too much because he currently holds a 2-0 set lead over Beck on court 12.

1742 : Kohlschreiber did indeed win that fourth set against Minar and there's now well into a decider, which is currently 3-2 in the German's favour but on serve.

1739 : Vinci has battled her way through a tense second-set tie-break to claim a minor scalp of 31st seed Pavlyuchenkova with a 6-4 7-6 (8/6) triumph. Once again another women's match which doesn't go the distance.

1734 : We've seen so many straight-sets victories in the women's tournament today - nine out of a possible 10 so far to be precise - and there's two matches out on court at the moment which also look like they could be one-sided affairs. The 27th seed Alisa Kleybanova has just won the opening set 6-0 against fellow Russian Regina Kulikova while Vera Zvonareva, seeded seven, has notched up the first set 6-1 against Mathilde Johansson of France.

1727 : Soderling, the man who ended Nadal's undefeated record on the clay of Roland Garros, is in trouble against Granollers and trails by one set to nil although it's going with serve at 4-4 in the second.

1725 : On court 14 Kohlschreiber is on the brink of taking his clash with Minar into a deciding set. Despite falling 2-1 down the 27th seed has earned himself a decisive break in the fourth to lead 5-2.

1720 : Well, the Centre Court crowd don't exactly have a big final match to look forward to today. No disrespect to either Sam Querrey or 11th seed Marin Cilic because I'm sure they could provide some early evening entertainment but it's hardly an all star cast! And there is no more singles action due on the other show court due to Llodra's withdrawal. Therefore let's now head to the outside courts for some drama...

1714 : Now I said it was all smiles on Court One after Llodra's collision with a ball girl, but it isn't. The Frenchman picked up an injury which has forced him to quit after just seven games in the opening set. So it's Haas who progressed into the third round.

1710 : Federer has, as expected, breezed through to the third round with a 6-2 6-2 6-4 triumph over Garcia-Lopez. Never in doubt.

1707 : A super contest is now over on court three with Verdasco clinching the only break of serve in the entire match to finish off Vliegen 7-6 (7/3) 6-7 (3/7) 7-6 (7/4) 6-4.

1705 : Llodra has just crashed into the umpire's chair and a defenceless ball girl while rushing to reach a drop shot at the net! He gives the girl a hug and it's smiles all round!

1702 : Verdasco loves these long epic matches doesn't he? His defeat to Nadal in the semi-finals of the Australian Open was the longest match in the tournament's history at five hours and 14 minutes while I'm sure you haven't forgotten his five-set defeat at last year's Wimbledon against Mario Ancic, who clinched the deciding set 13-11. Well he's being pushed hard by Vliegen, who must serve to stay in the match at 5-4 down in the fourth set.

1658 : Back to Centre Court and Federer is still strolling along with ease against Garcia-Lopez, who is seeing all his brave attempts to find a way back into this match simply swatted away. He's a break down in this third set and it's only a matter of time now before Federer wins.

1655 : Still there's no breaks between Verdasco and Vliegen and this fourth set will need another tie-break if nothing changes. What a real battle that one has become.

1650 : In a clash between two unseeded players, Nicolas Almagro of Spain leads Karol Beck, who knocked out Feliciano Lopez in round one, 1-0 in sets having taken the opener 6-4.

1648 : There's a couple of men's matches in their relatively early stages which I've yet to mention. Firstly the French Open finalist Robin Soderling, seeded 13, is taking on Marcel Granollers while Tommy Haas faces Michael Llodra on Court One.

1645 : Due to the speed of all those women's matches earlier today, there's just one encounter taking place right now in their competition with Italy's Roberta Vinci leading the 31st seed from Russia Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova by one set to nil.

1643 : Nick Coulson has emailed in to defend the gunting predominantly in the women's game. He says: "Thinking about this whole issue of women players grunting, it may well put their opponent off if they are not focussed enough, but to call it gamesmanship is unfair. Martial Artists often use a battle cry consisting of a sharp exhalation and shout - called a Ki-Ai - when executing a technique. This combination of a relaxed and powerful exhalation can add power to the movement. Try it, it works! Surely this is a similar concept to what women tennis players are doing? You hit a hard groundstroke with power and aggression and a lot of the time it helps to really roar. Think of it as a verbal fist pump!" You should tell Andy Murray about 'Ki-Ai' and just maybe that'll be the tactic needed to beat Roger Federer in the final!

1540 : In just 59 minutes Federer has cruised into a 2-0 set lead. Did anyone actually think there could have been an upset?

1537 : Montanes avoids a draining fifth set by finishing off Canas 6-3 in the fourth and he'll next meet either Verdasco or Vliegen.

1535 : It's getting hotter and hotter at Wimbledon this afternoon and if it wasn't for that gentle breeze the players would need buckets for their sweat. Apart from Federer that is who's as cool as a cucumber out on court. A marvellous forehand winner down the line brings up two breaks points and on the second attempt the Swiss ace converts it to move into a 5-2 lead.

1633 : Verdasco has done it - he's won the third set tie-break. But if Vliegen refuses to lie down then we're probably heading for at least another 12 more games.

1630 : Elsewhere in the men's singles, Minar has squared up his match with Kohlschreiber at one set apiece while Albert Montanes holds the advantage against Guillermo Canas. The 32nd seed leads 2-1 in sets although his opponent did halve the deficit so therefore has renewed hope.

1627 : Verdasco has predictably held serve to force a third successive tie-break against Vliegen!

1624 : It's all over on Court One, not long after the match began as Serena Williams wraps up a 6-2 6-1 triumph over Groth and she really couldn't have it much easier. For me the American, a two-time champion here, will be the champion this year although she should be fully expecting to meet her elder sister Venus in the final again.

1620 : Verdasco and Vliegen are putting on a great show for the court three fans. There's not even been one break of serve yet as we head deeper into an absorbing third set, with the Belgian leading 6-5.

1615 : The grunting queen Azarenka has stormed into the third round, blitzing Raluca Olaru without even dropping a single game. I'm just hoping somebody asks her what she thinks about the crowd imitating her noises - although I expect the Belarus star to say it fired her up.

1610 : It's hard to keep on top of absolutely everything going on around SW19 so forgive me for missing Philipp Kohlschreiber, the 27th seeded German, clinching the first set of his encounter with Ivo Minar 6-4. They're now well into the second but so far it's going with serve.

1607 : Comfortable and composed. The two words best to describe Federer's performance right now. A clean as a whistle winner from the great man sees him take the opening set 6-2.

1606 : Serena Williams is running away with her match against Groth. Having blinked just once, I noticed the American had gone on to take the first set 6-2 and then move into an early 2-0 lead in the second.

1604 : David Turner has emailed in to disagree with me in regards to grunting. He says: "It's not necessary - Federer doesn't grunt - and I find it very childish and personally think it should be banned." Well, I'll be interested to hear how other people feel about it because I reckon opinion will be polarised.

1602 : It's just cruise control for Federer right now as he leads Garcia-Lopez 5-1 and isn't even breaking sweat, despite the sunshine beating down on Centre Court.

1600 : There's a cracking match unfolding on court three as Verdasco, the seventh seed, sees his set lead wiped out by Vliegen, who also prevailed on a tie-break. It's 2-2 in the third set and quite literally nothing separates them!

1555 : Another women's second-round match is over with 28th seed Sorana Cirstea brushing aside Sania Mirza 6-4 6-4.

1554 : The crowd are imitating the grunts of Victoria.Azarenka but the eighth seed isn't letting it bother her as she leads Ioana Raluca Olaru of Romania 6-0 3-0. To be honest, I don't understand all this moaning about players grunting. In the heat of sporting combat the least you should be worried about is the noise coming out of an opponent's mouth. Let me know your views by emailing me at christopher.hammer@bskyb.com

1551 : Maybe Garcia-Lopez won't put up much of a contest after all. Federer breaks him in the third game before comfortably holding serve to move 3-1 up in this first set.

1548 : Meanwhile on Court One it's much easier for Serena Williams, who is battering Jarmila Groth with her customary powerful style. She's a break up in the first set and I'd expect her to march into the next round.

1547 : Federer is made to work to win his opening service game, levelling the first set a 1-1. Early days in this one but at least Garcia-Lopez is showing no signs of being a pushover.

1545 : Robredo is through and sinks to his knees - what a truly stirring comeback. The last point was a long rally but ended when a plucky yet weary Koubek found the net from the baseline. As delighted and relieved he is to get through, I doubt the Spaniard will have much energy left for his next match!

1540 : I'm now mostly focusing on court four where Robredo is looking to clinch victory in this epic clash against Koubek. It's 5-1 in the decider but the Austrian is still clinging on to dear life and scrambling across the court for every point.

1536 : Roger Federer is warming up for his encounter with Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain. The pair have met twice before but I'm sure it comes as no shock to you that the Swiss ace won both of them in straight sets. In fact he only dropped seven games in total over those matches. Don't expect anything other than a stroll in the park for the Wimbledon king.

1530 : Hats off to Robredo, he's stormed into a 4-1 lead in the final set against Koubek, who must feel completely drained right now. As previously mentioned the clay-court specialist is bidding to reach the third round at SW19 for the first time since 2003.

1527 : While I was gripped by the dramatic conclusion to Sharapova's exit, a few other women booked their place in the third round. Virginie Razzano, seeded 26th, beat Jill Craybas 6-3 6-0 while Elena Vesnina overcame fellow Russian Vera Dushevina 6-3 6-4.

1523 : It's all over for Sharapova as Dulko celebrates a famous victory in her career. The Argentinean showed signs of nerves as she found the net on a first match point while a wonderful drop shot from Sharapova saved the second. The Russian was unfortunate to hit the next on the next point but once again she survived with a stunning down the line winner. Then, after Dulko choked with some weak shots, it was Sharapova's turn to spurn a glorious opportunity when on break point. And finally Dulko took her next chance when Sharapova hit long to end a thrilling match.

1514 : I apologise for writing Robredo off - he's now come back from two sets down against Koubek and they're into a decider. Surely the 15th seed is hot favourite to push on for victory from now.

1512 : Sharapova successfully holds serve to save the match, but now it's Dulko's turn to serve for it. Could this be the end for the 2004 champion?

1510 : It's all over on Court One with Djokovic ousting his German challenger Greul 7-5 6-1 6-4. The fourth seed will obviously need to play better if he's to lift the Wimbledon trophy but he seems relatively pleased with his smooth progress.

1508 : Meanwhile over on Centre Court Sharapova has it all to do once again after another break from Dulko, who leads 4-3 in the decider.

1506 : Djokovic is now serving for the match against Greul, who can be proud of his efforts today if indeed he ends up losing.

1502 : Dulko sparks an eruption of cheers from the Centre Court crowd after a superb winner down the line sees her hold serve against Sharapova in this absorbing contest.

1500 : Verdasco is in pole position now against Vliegen after snatching the opening set 7-3 on a tie-break. He won't want every set to be this tough but the manner of this mini triumph could knock the stuffing out of the Belgian.

1458 : Sharapova screams with delight as she drills a winner down the line at the net to bring up advantage having also saved two break points. She finishes the job on the next point and now leads 3-2.

1454 : Sharapova's fans can breathe a sigh of relief as she breaks back quite comfortably, rattling off four points on the bounce.

1450 : Absolutely brilliant! Greul produced two moments of magic to sensationally break Djokovic having previously looked a well beaten man. Maybe there's life in the German qualifier yet! It's 3-3 in the third set.

1447 : Now it's Dulko's turn to show some resilience, breaking Sharapova to move 2-1 up in the third set and this could be the pivotal moment of the match. What has the Russian got left?

1445 : Fish is waving to the crowd on court two as he accepts his warm applause having overcome Tipsarevic 6-4 3-6 6-1 6-4 to not only reach the third round but make a mockery of my early prediction.

1443 : Dent's efforts to drag himself to 2-2 have all been in vain, because Gimeno-Traver has won the fifth set 6-4 to progress.

1442 : Relief for Dulko having finally won a game again. It's going with serve in the third set at 1-1 and Sharapova still has plenty of work to do if she's to book her place in the third round.

1440 : Oh no, maybe it hasn't got five sets written all over it! Fish has just broken to lead 5-4 and maybe I will have egg on my face in a few minutes time.

1439 : I'm finding it very hard indeed to keep my eyes of the clash between Fish and Tipsarevic. The latter trails by two sets to one but at 4-4 in the fourth there's every chance he can force a decider - just what I've been predicting all along!

1436 : Sharapova wins her seventh game in succession to lead 1-0 against Dulko, who has really fallen to pieces under all this pressure from her opponent. Perhaps the finishing line being in sight caused her to freeze up but more crucially Sharapova is a completely different proposition than she was in the first set.

1434 : Greul has stopped the rot on Court One by picking up his first game for what seems like eternity against Djokovic but he remains a break down at 2-1 in what should be the final set of the match.

1432 : Seventh seed Fernando Verdasco, who you will remember knocked out Andy Murray during his run to the Australian Open semi-finals earlier this year, continues his Wimbledon campaign against Kristof Vliegen of Belgium. They are currently 3-3 in the opening set.

1430 : Brilliant from Sharapova, who has further underlined how much fight and guts she has in her duel with Dulko. Despite spurning three set points, she made no mistake on the fourth and they're now into a decider on Centre Court.

1428 : And sorry for not mentioning it earlier but there appears to be a thriller on court five where Taylor Dent and Daniel Gimeno-Traver are into a deciding fifth set after the American fought back from 2-0 down.

1425 : Robredo ain't dead and burried yet and perhaps the tables are beginning to turn on court four. The 15th seed has pulled a set back against Koubek and if he takes the next then we'll have a decider - which could also occur between Fish and Tipsarevic, who are level at 3-3 in the fourth set.

1422 : The only thing to report on Court One is that Djokovic is well into his stride now and Greul is rapidly fading out of contention. The Serbian has rattled off the second set 6-1 and it won't be too long I'm sure when victory is sealed.

1418 : As we feared was happening, Schuettler has completely imploded on court 12 although that's probably doing a disservice to Sela, who has crushed the German 7-6 (7/3) 6-3 6-2.

1415 : Out of nowhere Sharapova is playing some superb tennis right now and Dulko is rather shell-shocked. The former champ is leading 4-3 after a further break of serve and if she can finish off the set then she'll have the all-important momentum heading into the decider.

1409 : Sharapova's recovery is growing ever stronger. She's now broken Dulko back and will now serve to level it up at 3-3 in this second set.

1408 : Back to a couple of men's matches we were closely following earlier. Fish has blitzed Tipsarevic 6-1 in the third set of their entertaining encounter while Robredo, who trails Koubek by two sets to nil, is leading 5-4 in the third although it is going with serve.

1405 : No one likes to see a former champion suffer like this but having slammed down an ace, she picks up her first game of the set.

1400 : It's going from bad to worse for Sharapova on Centre Court. The Russian isn't really at the races - and to be honest looking a bit weak in her shots - while a rampant Dulko is taking full advantage and leads 3-0 in the second set.

1356 : Well, after all that Greul couldn't cope with the pressure and a pumped up Djokovic takes the opening set 7-5. It should be a procession from now on.

1354 : She's done it! A big relief for Hantuchova, who has now beaten Zheng 6-3 7-5 despite her Chinese opponent's persistence to try and remain in the championships.

1352 : As Hantuchova continues to try and shake off Zheng, Ai Sugiyama has completed a straight sets triumph over Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain in another second-round encounter.

1350 : Greul must now hold is nerve as he serves to stay in the set and ultimately force a tie-break. The qualifier won't have been in many pressure situations like this on the big stage before - if at all - so this is a real test.

1348 : Hantuchova is now serving for the match at 6-5 in the second set against Zheng. If she's unable to shake off the Chinese 16th seed this time, you wonder if she'll be able to pick up the momentum once again in a decider.

1345 : Sharapova fends off one set point at 5-2 down but Dulko is in no mood to waste a second opportunity, this time sweeping a cross-court winner past the former champion.

1342 : You just sense Greul's opportunity is lost. Djokovic comfortably holds serve to go 5-4 up but more importantly the Serbian is beginning to find his rhythm at last.

1339 : Cibulkova has now polished off her victory over Radwanska, going through 6-2 6-4 while Hantuchova is serving for the match against Zheng.

1337 : Greul produces a sublime drop shot to move onto the brink of a 5-3 lead but the inconsistent Djokovic explodes into life to force deuce. One error and a double fault later, it's now 4-4.

1335 : Sharapova is making an improvement despite her slow start. Although still a little rusty, the Russian won her next two service games but her revival looks to have come a bit too late in this opening set with Dulko leading 5-2.

1332 : Elsewhere in the women's second round, Cibulkova and D.Hantuchova, who both claimed one-set leads against Radwanska and Zheng, are level at 4-4 in their respective second sets.

1330 : And in just over an hour, the first women's match of the day is over with Petrova cruising into the third round courtesy of a 6-3 6-2 triumph over Peer.

1328 : And on court two, Tipsarevic has hauled himself back on level terms with Fish by clinching the second set 6-3. What did I say? This one is going to five sets, I'm so sure of that.

1327 : Back on court four and Robredo is in deep trouble now. His opponent Koubek has just won the second set and it's a long way back for the 15th seed from here.

1323 : Djokovic has managed to win his next two service game but is still a break down against Greul. The pair have never met before so at the moment it's a case of the fourth seed heading into the unknown - but you'd have to question if the little-known German will be able to keep up with the pace as the match progresses.

1318 : Sharapova headed into Wimbledon admitting she had no expectations due to the injury that forced her out of the game for nine months. So we shouldn't perhaps be surprised to see her trail Dulko 3-0 on Centre Court. I'm sure there are those who doubt if she'll ever get back to her best form but this won't be through lack of determination. We'll see how much fight she has in the next hour or two.

1315 : Well we did say earlier how Djokovic found the going tough in his first-round match, and he's got more problems right now against Greul, who leads 2-0 after an early break. Last year the Serbian was knocked out in the second round by Marat Safin and will be concerned a similar exit could occur today. The German qualifier is visibly up for this clash - the biggest of his career - and is desperate for his first ever top 10 scalp.

1310 : Despite being in command earlier, Schuettler has actually lose the first set against a plucky Sela on a tie-break. Maybe the German veteran won't be repeating his heroic run of 2008 this time round.

1305 : Also I'd like to hear your feedback on Andy Murray's victory yesterday. Can he go all the way or do you think he showed signs of vulnerability against Robert Kendrick. My personal tip for the Wimbledon crown is Juan Martin Del Potro, who marched into the second round yesterday, and I'd like to know if you agree with me. Or are you going to be boring and predict Roger Federer?! Let me know by emailing christopher.hammer@bskyb.com

1301 : The champion of 2004, Sharapova is about to step out on Centre Court and we'll be watching every hit of the way as she battles clay-court specialist Dulko. Over on the other show court, men's fourth seed Djokovic is up against Greul. Stay tuned with us for all the latest news from both games while we'll also keep you informed of the rest of the action around SW19 this lunchtime.

1259 : Tipsarevic, who has reached the last 16 at SW19 in the last two years, must now fight back from a set down if he's to defeat the impressive Fish. Like I said before, expect this one to go the full distance because these are two dogged and determined characters and extremely evenly-matched.

1257 : Koubek did indeed clinch that opening set and now he's a break up in the second. The Austrian has never reached the third round at Wimbledon but he's in a great position to do so today.

1255 : Incredible! I glanced away for what seemed like a few minutes only to find Hantuchova actually won the opening set against Zheng 6-3. Where on earth did that come from. Elsewhere in the women's second round. Cibulkova and Petrova are also a set up in their matches against Radwanska and Peer respectively.

1252 : It's a topsy-turvy encounter on court two. While Tipsarevic broke back instantly, the Serbian then lost his serve in the very next game and he's furious with himself. Now Fish will be serving for the first set.

1250 : In case you haven't heard ninth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has been handed a walkover against Simone Bolelli after a back injury to the Italian. He will now play either Ivo Karlovic or Steve Darcis for a place in the last 16.

1245 : Koubek is fighting for everything against Robredo, and punches the air with delight as he holds serve following an almighty battle to lead 5-2. So far he's survived 10 break points and his never-say-die attitude is starting to frustrate his Spanish opponent.

1242 : Fish is really upping the ante here Tipsarevic and his aggressive tennis has finally, and deservedly, brought him a break in this opening set to lead 4-3.

1240 : Although Robredo has been knocking around for a while now in the higher echelons of the men's game, you might be surprised to know he hasn't reached the third round here at SW19 since 2003! Sure, grass isn't his forte but a player of his calibre ought to boast of a better Wimbledon record than that. And he's already struggling against 32-year-old Koubek, who has the crowd on his side as he leads 4-2 in the first set.

1236 : Cibulkova and Petrova are making light work of Radwanska and Peer respectively as they both lead 4-1 in their opening sets. Elsewhere Zheng remains a break up against Hantuchova and looks in full control.

1235 : Fish and Tipsarevic are so evenly matched, producing a number of lengthy rallies to keep the spectators transfixed during these early stages. It's no surprise really - these two have played each other twice this year and currently tied at one victory apiece. I'm not going to pick a winner right now but I will predict a five-set thriller!

1225 : One player a forgot to mention early is 18th seed Rainer Schuettler - apologies to him and his fans - who is currently having it easy against Israel's Dudi Sela. The German, who memorable reached last year's semi-finals here before losing to Rafael Nadal, has raced into a 3-0 lead in the first set on court 12.

1220 : Weather-wise it's gone rather cloudy in the last hour or so - maybe I spoke too soon! But if anything the breeze will cool the players down and perhaps contribute to more energetic and tireless play on court.

1218 : By contrast it's been a hard-fought opener on court two with Fish and Tipsarevic trading blows from the baseline, but it's Serbian who holds serve despite allowing his opponent numerous chances to break.

1216 : In fact Hantuchova has made a woeful start against the 16th seed Zheng, who breaks serve in the opening game thanks to a double fault.

1210 : Players are currently warming up across the courts right now, and just for the time being we'll concentrate on the clash between Mardy Fish and Janko Tipsarevic. Also in action right now is 15th seed Tommy Robredo of Spain who's up against Stefan Koubek and in the women's event Laura Robson's conqueror Daniela Hantuchova faces Jie Zheng. Elsewhere Nadia Petrova, the 10th seed, has a tough second-round match with Shahar Peer while French Open semi-finalist Dominika Cibulkova is in battle against Urszula Radwanska.

1155 : As always there's sure to be plenty of time for debate and discussion throughout the day so please email me at christopher.hammer@bskyb.com and I'll publish as many of your views and opinions as possible.

1150 : Play will get under way shortly at 1200 BST but in just over an hour on the show courts we can look forward to former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova continue her re-emergence following that long injury absence as she faces Gisela Dulko while highly-fancied Novak Djokovic, the fourth seed, takes on Germany's Simon Greul. Few will expect a shock in that match but the Serbian found the going tough in his opening clash against Julien Benneteau, before winning in four sets.

1145 : Good morning and welcome to our live text commentary from day three of the Wimbledon championships. Once again it's a wonderful day in SW19 and with plenty of sun and blue skies expected, you'd have to wonder why they even spent all that time and money building the Centre Court roof! Rain here during the summer? What were they thinking!
