Lleyton Hewitt believes Andy Murray can become the first male British player to reach the Wimbledon final since 1938.
Former Wimbledon champion makes Murray favourite for semi-final
Lleyton Hewitt is tipping Andy Murray to beat Andy Roddick and become the first male British player to reach the Wimbledon final since 1938.
Murray cruised into the semi-finals with a 7-5 6-3 6-2 victory over Juan Carlos Ferrero on Wednesday, while Roddick came out on top of a five-set thriller with Hewitt on court one.
The pair will now clash in Friday's semi-finals at the All England Club and former world No.1 Hewitt believes the match on centre court will go with form.
"I think it's going to be a tough one for Roddick to win," said the Australian.
"When I've seen Andy Murray at his best, I think he matches up extremely well against Roddick. It's going to be an interesting match.
Convincingly
"A couple of years ago I saw them play here because they were in my section, and Murray took care of him convincingly.
"And Murray is a lot better player now than he was then. Roddick's going to have to play a hell of a match to beat him."
The match Hewitt referred to came in the third round in 2006 when a 19-year-old Murray, making just his second appearance at Wimbledon, ousted the American 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 6-4.
Since then the world No.3 has improved his head-to-head record with Roddick to 6-2, with his latest triumph coming in the final in Doha earlier this year.
The world No.6 does have one win over the Scot on grass on his record, but that only came because of the Scot's withdrawal from the pre-Wimbledon tournament at Queen's Club last year, so the form books are firmly in Murray's favour.
