John Cena will miss the first WrestleMania of his WWE career due to injury

John Cena has confirmed that he will not take part at this year’s WrestleMania.

The 15-time WWE champion has been ever-present at the annual spectacle since making his debut in 2004 but his ongoing injury recuperation will force him to sit out in April.

Cena hasn't been seen in a WWE ring since October when he embarked on a spell on the sidelines to film American reality television, before having shoulder surgery in January. That troublesome recovery will result in Cena being unable to compete for the first time since his WWE tenure began.

"For the first time in a decade, this year I will be watching and not wrestling at Wrestlemania," he said at a press conference to confirm Orlando, Florida, as next year's host city.

"WrestleMania means the world to me."

The biggest event in the WWE calendar could break all-time attendance records this year because it will held in the 105,000-seater AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.
