The 2017 Royal Rumble will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, January 29, WWE has confirmed.

The Alamodome last held WWE's annual January event in 1997, when "Stone Cold" Steve Austin won the 30-man Royal Rumble Match and Shawn Michaels beat Sycho Sid to claim the WWE Title.

The winner of the 2017 Royal Rumble Match - which will feature both Raw and Smackdown Superstars - will earn a championship opportunity at WrestleMania 33 on April 2.

Next year's Royal Rumble will be the 30th in the event's history - "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan winning the inaugural Rumble Match in Ontario, Canada in 1988 by lastly eliminating One Man Gang.
