Kurt Angle has shot down rumours that he will appear in Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble Match.

Angle was revealed as the first entrant into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017 and will be honoured at the induction ceremony on March 31.

But the 48-year-old - who last wrestled for WWE in 2006 - told TMZ he will not be among the 30 men hunting a world-title opportunity at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando on April 2.

"The Royal Rumble is not going to happen," said Angle, who won six world championship during his initial eight-year run in WWE.

"A lot of people are assuming, a lot of writers are writing about it, but I haven't talked to WWE about anything after the Hall of Fame.

"I'm sure they are going to want to do something eventually - I don't know if it is wrestling related or not but anything is possible in WWE.

Angle will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during the week of WrestleMania 33.

"I would imagine that I will be attached to WWE most likely for the rest of my life - there aren't any clues that have led me to that but I believe this is the start of our new relationship."
