WWE Smackdown: Kevin Owens assaults Chris Jericho
Wednesday 3 May 2017 10:34, UK
Chris Jericho could be out for some time after a vicious attack at the hands of Kevin Owens.
The pair squared off for the U.S. Championship after Jericho won the title from his former best friend at WWE Payback 48 hours earlier.
Owens was clearly after revenge and won back the belt in a brutal main event that quickly spilled out of the ring.
But that wasn't enough for KO, who first attacked Y2J with another 'pop-up powerbomb' while he was getting medical treatment.
Owens then returned as Jericho was being helped up the ramp to put a chair around his neck and slam him into a ring post.
The attack signals the end of a long-lasting feud between the pair, with Jericho about to take off from WWE to recover and to concentrate on his band, Fozzy.
The 'Welcoming Committee' of Carmella, Tamina and Natalya continues to dominate the Women's Division.
They attacked Charlotte Flair backstage and then got the pin over Flair and her partner Naomi in a tag match.
But they made a statement after the bell by attacking Becky Lynch, who refused to join the new faction.
Jinder Mahal, the No 1 contender for the WWE Championship, got a big win as he builds momentum going into his title match against Randy Orton at WWE Backlash, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
'The Maharaja' pinned Sami Zayn, thanks to a little help from NXT tag team The Bollywood Boyz.
Mahal stole Orton's belt last week and was forced to hand it back to Smackdown commissioner Shane McMahon but will be full of swagger when Smackdown comes from London's O2 Arena next week.
