Rusev won the five-way gauntlet match to earn a shot at AJ Styles' WWE championship at Extreme Rules.

Rusev celebrated a very happy Rusev Day by winning a Gauntlet match for the right to fight AJ Styles for his WWE title at Extreme Rules next month.

The Bulgarian Brute will be the next challenger for Styles' title live on Sky Sports Box Office on July 15 after getting the better of four of his fellow SmackDown competitors.

There was a slight twist to the proceedings, with Daniel Bryan taking a savage - and inexplicable - beating from the Bludgeon Brothers having made it through two matches.

WWE Late Night Smackdown

Having beaten Big E and using his speed and quickness of thought to eliminate Samoa Joe by countout, Bryan was laid out by the Bludgeons, leaving The Miz with a simple victory.

His task against Rusev was far more difficult and he ultimately fell short, tapping out to the Accolade to make it a very happy Rusev Day.

Carmella - perhaps somewhat predictably - threw another celebration to mark her successful title defence against Asuka at Money In The Bank, where James Ellsworth was on hand to provide a major assist.

Ellsworth let everyone know that he was back to serve his "Princess" and Carmella then had him rattle off the entire list of superstars she claims to be better than.
